Mawa Modak / Pedha

"Ganapati Bappa Morya" Happy Ganesh Chaturti to all of you.

Modak is Lords ganesh favorite food , it is offered to him during ganapati festival.

During Ganesh Chaturthi mainly steamed modak and fried modal are made.
there are other modak's varieties which are also made like chocolate modal, rava modak , dry fruits modak.
Usually the mixture is made and then shaped into modak using the mould.
This is a quick simple modak recipe and gets ready in microwave lcomes handy if you don't have much time.
I have learned this recipe from my friend Kimaya Chaubal, I really thanks her for teaching me this delicious easy modak/pedha recipe and sharing this with you all.

Ingredients:-

1 . Unsalted Butter : 1 stick

2 . Heavy whipping cream : 1 cup

3 . Sugar : 1 cup

4 . Non fat dry milk Powder : 3 quarts (3 full cups)

5 . Saffron : for flavor

6 . Cardamom Powder : 1/4 tea spoon

This make around 50 modak it depends on the size of mould you have or 50 small size pedha.

Double/ reduce the amount of ingredients as per the quantity you want.

Procedure:-

1. Take a microwave safe big mixing bowl

2. Melt butter in microwave for 30 secs

3. Add heavy whipping cream to the bowl and pinch of saffron and microwave again for 30 secs

4. Add sugar and cardamom powder & mix well

5. Add 3 cups of milk powder to the above paste by refining through flour seive (चाळणी)

6. Microwave without break for 6 minutes. The mixture rises up, if the mixing bowl is not tall enough, the contents may overflow.

7. After 6 minutes take the bowl out of the microwave (be careful extremely hot) and mix the contents with a spatula like dough.

8. Let the dough cool down to a temperature that is comfortable to touch and make small pedha or take a mould apply some ghee on it and the mixture into mould.

9. Let it cool down and become little firm

10. Mava Pedha is ready to eat

Tips

If you don't have Modak Moulds then just roll the mama mixture in to small balls just like pedha.

It stays good for up to week.

Make mama properly by continuously stirring the mixture so that no lump appears in it and it turns out smooth into mawa.

Slightly cool it down then add powdered sugar into it, do not cool down the mawa completely or else it will become powdery. It should be cool enough that it can be touched with bare hands.

If you feel the mixture is too soft to form a pedha or a modak then refrigerate for 2 hours. After that prepare the modak.

This make around 50 modak it depends on the size of mould you have or if you don't have the mould then you can make pedha (small round size balls)
50 small size pedha.

If you are preparing a large batch (100 modaks) then mix everything step by step in a non stick pan instead of doing in microwave .
